Lymphoma Clinic/Outpatient Bone Marrow Transplant Clinic

A resident assigned to General Dermatology will assist with multidisciplinary cutaneous lymphoma clinic at the Cancer Center when it occurs.  This resident is responsible for bringing a supply bag to the clinic to allow for performance of biopsies at this off-site location.

SSM Health/Saint Louis University has one of the only outpatient bone marrow transplant clinics in the nation.  This clinic is located at the Cancer Center.  These are immunosuppressed patients that are at-risk of infection.  If the bone marrow transplant team needs the patient to be seen by Dermatology, they are allowed to call the SLUH consult resident to have the patient seen in an urgent manner.  The protocol for evaluating these patients can be found in Appendix H.

Protocol:

• BMT clinic patients that need an urgent Dermatology evaluation will be seen and staffed in that day’s (or soonest available) CSM clinic, by the consult resident and the CSM clinic attending that day
• In all cases needing urgent evaluations, the BMT service is to page the dermatology consult resident, who will then communicate with the CSM dermatology attending directly to determine when the patient should be added on and seen
• Add on CSM patients are for acute issues only, and include but are not limited to, rule out GVHD, leukemia cutis eval, chemotherapy drug rashes and infections that require urgent evaluation
• BMT patients with non-urgent skin issues and those that are not related to their transplant / malignancy status should be scheduled as normal and should not be added on for acute visits in clinic. This includes but is not limited to issues such as, ie. concern for non-melanoma skin cancer, acne, rosacea, and hair loss.
• The process to initiate either protocol will be to contact the resident on consults through the pager. Any concerns regarding BMT patients outside of normal clinic hours should be initiated through the dermatology on call resident.
