Dermatopathology Curriculum

In the manual since June 29, 2020

The Dermatopathology teaching curriculum is overseen by the dermpath faculty. Dr. Kristin Smith and the dermatopathology fellow are responsible for the formal dermatopathology curriculum every Friday morning from 7:15 – 8:00 am, which is based on Weedon’s Skin Pathology textbook.  Chapters from the textbook are assigned weekly which correspond to the Andrews’ textbook review chapters.  Slides corresponding to those chapters are available for resident review one week prior to the didactic sessions and review of the slides prior to the conference is mandatory.

The fellow and Dr. Smith will then alternately lead the didactic session every week. They will review the glass slides and also highlight the important information from the textbook.  A review of unknown glass slides will be conducted on two Thursday mornings each month. One of these sessions is led by Dr. Smith and the other rotates among the other dermpath attendings.  The dermatopathology curriculum also includes two board-style comprehensive dermatopathology reviews.

When on the Dermatopathology rotation residents will spend some time with Kimberly Brown, PA-C in her Hair Loss Clinic.
