Vacation

In the manual since June 29, 2020

Postgraduate trainees are entitled to three weeks of paid vacation (a week constitutes seven days) or twenty-one days each year.  This translates into fifteen clinic days scheduled Monday through Friday.   All residents are to take 2 of their 3 weeks vacation in 1 or 2-week blocks.  The third week can be divided into 2 portions.  Vacation requests must be made to the Chief Resident(s) prior to the beginning of the academic year so that the schedules can be designed appropriately.

Third year residents will have the first choice, followed by second year residents, followed by incoming first year residents.  All vacation requests must be approved by the chief resident, residency program coordinator and residency program director.   Travel plans should not be made until approval is confirmed.  Care should be taken to minimize the situation that multiple residents are on vacation at the same time.

Any requests to change vacation should be made using the Resident Request for Time Away sheet (Appendix M) at least 8 weeks in advance when possible. Send forms to Program Coordinator and Program Director for approval.

ANY requests which include closing one of your Resident or Sr. Resident clinics will need to get Chairman approval. PC and PD cannot approve these alone.
